Starla Howard, R.P.T., Rehabilitation Supervisor at VNA Hospice & Palliative Care of Southern California is featured in this video offering her expertise for seniors to remain safe in the home and live a healthy lifestyle. Just some of the keys to living a healthy lifestyle noted in the video are to eat properly, stay hydrated, take medications properly, proper hand washing and getting your proper immunizations. “Hand washing may seem simple and basic, but 60 percent of all people, not just seniors, do not wash their hands often enough, and 90 percent do not wash their hands properly,” Howard tells us in the video.

For in-home safety, here is just a portion of the tips she offers:.
* Practice fall recovery. What if you fall in the bathroom? The kitchen?
* Secure your throw rugs in your house.
* Keep pathways clear/safe.
* Make sure you are not using your towel rack as a grab bar.
